Youth Class

Our kids’ (ages 8+) class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm-7 pm. Adults are welcome to attend the youth class for additional training, or if that’s the only time that works for your schedule.

$50 monthly. No contracts. Pay as you go. Uniform is provided with first month’s dues.

Color belt testing occurs in March, July, and November. Student must attend 80% of training sessions between testing periods in order to be eligible to test.

Adult Class

Age 13+ of all ranks meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 7:45 pm.

Advanced Class

Brown and black belts also meet every Saturday from 10am-12pm for advanced kihon, kumite, and kata. Instructor and judge training for those interested.

Black belt tests occur at least twice a year at national camps organized by JKAAF in summer and fall.

What examiners look for during testing:


10th-7th kyu – Examiners look for correct basic form.


​6th-4th Kyu – Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, and clear grasp of the hand techniques.


3rd-1st kyu - Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, clear grasp of the hand techniques, ease and naturalness of execution, speed, powerful kime, smooth transition and instantaneous dynamic elasticity of delivery.


1st Dan - Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, clear grasp of the hand techniques, ease and naturalness of execution, speed, powerful kime, smooth transition and instantaneous dynamic elasticity of delivery, basic understanding and functional ability in foundation techniques of karate.


2nd Dan -  Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, clear grasp of the hand techniques, ease and naturalness of execution, speed, powerful kime, smooth transition and instantaneous dynamic elasticity of delivery, basic understanding and functional ability in foundation techniques of karate.


3rd, 4th Dan - Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, clear grasp of the hand techniques, ease and naturalness of execution, speed, powerful kime, smooth transition and instantaneous dynamic elasticity of delivery, understanding and mastery of all karate techniques, understanding and philosophy of karate, ability to apply fundamentals and functional aspects in practice and ability to instruct.  Also examiners look for high level of mastery of karate techniques and ability to apply technique in one’s unique way.


5th, 6th Dan - Examiners look for correct basic form, correct pivoting of the hips during renzoku-waza, clear grasp of the hand techniques, ease and naturalness of execution, speed, powerful kime, smooth transition and instantaneous dynamic elasticity of delivery, understanding and mastery of all karate techniques, understanding and philosophy of karate, ability to apply fundamentals and functional aspects in practice and ability to instruct.
